QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Queen Elizabeth National Park QENP, Kyambura and kigezi Wild life reserves are a home to a diversity of habitats. The park has over 550 species of birds with other wildlife like Elephants, herds of buffaloes, Leopards, Lions, Uganda Kob and the lake shore lines of the 2 main lakes George and Edward, channeled by the mighty Kazinga Channel congregate thousands of hippos which is a major attraction.
ACCESS:
It’s about 467 kms from Kampala to Mbarara. Use of a 4WD is recommended.
ATTRACTIONS/ACTIVITIES:
The Launch Cruise:
The cruise gives you a wild life experience to view of Hippos, Crocodiles and buffaloes, big herds of elephants, as well as migrants and resident birds. The wildlife can be seen at the channel as they drink and rest in the water.
Game Drives:
This gives you an opportunity to view giant forest hog, Elephants, Lions, buffaloes and bush bucks. Tree climbing lions, Uganda Kob, Topi and Buffaloes can be viewed in Ishasha.
Nature Walks:
These, through different trails lead to the Bats cave, crater lakes, the blue lake and hunter' cavein Maramagambo Forest, to the home of chimps and other primates like the Black and white colobus monkeys in Kyambura Wild Life reserve, as well as views of birds and wildlife.
Bird watching:
The park is a haven for over 606 species of birds like the rare Shoebill, Slender tailed Nightjars, Grey headed Kingfisher, Black headed Gonek, African Mourning dove, Pin tailed Whydah and saline crater lakes which attracts flamingoes.
Traditional Salt visit:
This visit takes you to the salt making area in Lake Katwe and view the process of making salt and how salt ore looks.
